PUSH+ organiseerde in januari 2019 in Edinburgh het HOME LAB waar 15 kunstenaars het thema 'huis' in de kunsten voor jong publiek onderzochten. In PUSH+ is er ook plaats voor een verdere exploratie van deze ideeën in een residentie. Die vindt plaats in HET LAB, onze residentiële werkplek in Hasselt tussen 12 en 26 juni 2019. De geselecteerde kunstenaars zijn Vince Virr (Schotland), Mette Overgaard (Denemarken), Ilke Teerlinck en Els Roobroeck. Hun project kreeg de werktitel Happy feet.

(T)HUIS, dat was: samen zijn.
(T)HUIS zou kunnen zijn: een plek waar je je veilig voelt
Wat is (t)huis na een scheiding? Is het alleen die plek onder een dak waar we (niet) meer samen zijn? En hoe groot willen we onze plek, hoe breed de ruimte, hoe hoog de plafonds? Wat is echt van belang als we de familiewarmte verliezen zoals we die ooit kenden? Zijn we altijd wel zo tevreden met de stappen die onze voeten zetten als er geen één (t)huis meer is? En hoe kunnen we dan van twee huizen een (t)huis maken?
In deze residentie zoeken vier makers uit 3 landen samen naar een gezamenlijke visuele taal om het voor jong publiek te hebben over (t)huis en, in het bijzonder, over scheiding.
Vince Virr (Schotland), Mette Overgaard (Denemarken) en de Belgische maaksters Ilke Teerlinck en Els Roobroeck namen in januari 2019 deel aan het HOME LAB in Edinburgh. In dat artistieke lab, gesteund door Creative Europe, werkten 15 kunstenaars voor jong publiek samen. Vier van hen ontwikkelen hun ideeën verder in een residentie van twee weken in HET LAB - Hasselt (juni 2019).
the residency
We want to develop a narrative that is understood only by image. A narrative that highlights a universal story and gives a pathway for children to think of, empathise and understand what it means to be at home, when there is no longer ‘one’ home.
For this we would like to research three parts:
- ideas for a narrative physical performance
- audience interaction and participation
- workshops for children to create and talk about “home”
1) In the performance we want to explore the personality of feet and hands in a visual structure of selfbuilt homes that are carried by the individuals themselves. We want to research how we can tell a story through this, about how things take time (relationships, break-ups, new situations), finding and losing love, being alone and carrying on.
2) We would like to explore this format with different age groups, amongst 6+ audience. Furthermore we want to explore how this performance can interact with the audience and what the possibilities are to create a participatory performance with this. (codes, influence of public space).
3) As we are interested in the imagination and inner world of children, combined with this performance we want to create a dialogue with the children through workshops. Our initial thoughts are that in these workshops they can make a ‘home/tent’ of their own with different material such as newspapers. Creating space for them to explore and reflect on what they believe are important aspects of their own homes. Researching how we can intertwine this workshop with the performance format and guide the participants safely in their ‘home’ exploration is an aim of the residency.
